Quincy Jones: The Dude (1981)

As one would expect of someone of Quincy Jones’s calibre the guests on this LP are stellar. I’ve said it many times but this musicians on this LP really are the cream of the crop. Quincy definitely gets the best out of James Ingram and Patti Austin who sounds better on this album than on anything else I’ve heard her on. Her voice glides about the music majestically.

The song Ai No Corrida was actually a cover of a Chas Jankel song, I discovered recently. Chas having written with Ian Dury and played in The Blockheads makes that all the more surprising, for me anyway. Ian’s music, although lumped in with the Punk movement, was always very funky, and now we know why.
