Brenda Russell: Two Eyes (1983)

As close to perfection as she ever got, in my humble opinion.

As always, the cast of musicians is exemplary, you couldn’t ask for a better cast of backing vocalists, although why Michael McDonald didn’t help out in that department remains a mystery. The tunes are brilliant, written mostly by Brenda herself, other than four occasions when Bill LaBounty, Dave Grusin, Michael McDonald and David Foster helps out (on the sublime ‘It’s Something’).

As you would expect, all the performances are of the top order and Brenda is in fine voice, as always. Smoothness abounds.
